Abstract
Haliday and Nancy Haley claim that they were the owners of two slaves, Hampton and Nathan, "both of the value of sixteen hundred dollars," in 1819, when the two slaves were "casually lost" and came into the possession of Russel Kellum. The Haleys contend that Kellum knew that the slaves belonged to them. However, with intent to deceive, Kellum has refused to return the slaves. He has "converted and disposed of the said negro slaves to his own use." The Haleys sue for $2,000 in damages.
