- Salutation: To the Honorable the Superior Court for the aforesaid County
Abstract
Ransom J. Roberts claims that, in 1810, he was the owner of a slave named Champion, valued at $800. He contends that he "casually lost" the slave, who came into and is now in the possession of Thomas Womack, "by finding." Roberts alleges that Womack knew that the slave belonged to him. However with intent to injure Roberts, Womack "converted the said Negro man Champion to his own use." Roberts claims $2,000 in damages.
