Richard J. Snelling, in his capacity as the administrator of the estate of the late Dempsey Leary, possessed a slave named Daniel, valued at $1,000. He informs the court that he "casually lost" Daniel, who came into the possession of Shadrack Atkinson. Snelling claims that Atkinson knew that the slave belonged to the estate, but that Atkinson, with intent to deceive, "converted & disposed of said Negro man Daniel to his own use." Snelling claims damages of $1,000 and asks that Atkinson answer him in an action of trover and conversion.
