Petition #20682712

Abstract

Mark Andrews sues George William Grisham for $1,200 in damages. Andrews purchased Delpha and her two children from Grisham for $600. The slaves were warranted as "sound and healthy." Andrews claims, however, that they "were unsound and unhealthy afflicted with fits pains in the head and back with almost total blindness at the changes of the moon with other incurable diseases unknown to your petitioner ... and of no use or value to your petitioner," being instead a "great trouble and expense." Thus, Andrews sues for damages.

Result: Partially granted; appealed; upheld.
