Honora Leblieux purchased "a certain man slave named Henry aged from fifty two to fifty four years" from Moses Roff Jr. for $300. Roff promised that "Henry then was sound and healthy in every respect." Leblieux asserts, however, that Henry "was unsound & unhealthy & was of no use or value to your petitioner." Moreover, Henry has been rendered an expense and liability putting the petitioner "to great charges & Expence in and about the feeding, Cloathing nursing & taking care of the said negroe slave." Leblieux sues Roff for $1,000 in damages.
Result: Denied; appealed.
