Carpenter claims that he fulfilled his end of the agreement. Moreover, Carpenter lent Smith $733.22 to buy agricultural supplies in addition to "managing his hands and negroes." Carpenter contends that Smith has not honored his financial obligations. He sues Smith for $2,000 in damages.
