Gillam Scoggin alleges that William House owes him $47, plus interest, resulting from a complicated series of financial transactions. A slave woman, Daphney, and her two children, were advertised "as the property of your petitioner to satisfy" a writ of fiere facias. William House, as the highest bidder, offered $262 for Daphney, but he refused to pay the purchase money. Thus, Daphney had to be placed up for sale again and this time the highest bid was only $215. Scoggin claims that House owes him the difference. Scoggin sues for $100 in damages.
