William Dougherty, administrator of the estate of the late Charles Henson, states that Henson owned seventeen slaves, valued at $4,500, collectively. He further represents that he "casually lost" said slaves and that they came into the possession of one William Dawson "by finding." Noting that Dawson "hath not as yet delivered the said negro slaves ... and hath hitherto wholy neglected and refused & still doth neglect & refuse to do so," Dougherty sues for $8,000 in damages.
