John Butter states that James Alexander and William H. Dyson owe him $150 for the hire of a "negro Slave," Teals. In addition to agreeing to repay the debt and return the slave within one year, the defendants also promised to provide the slave with "two Suits of Clothes one of Said Suits to be of woollen or half woollen, one Blanket, one pair of Shoes, one Hat and to pay the tax on Said negro." Butter avers that the defendants refuse to pay the debt or return the slave. He seeks $200 in damages.
