Abstract

Slave traders Milledge Durham and William Brightwell purchased a slave, Abe, for $500 from John M. Cureton. They aver that at the time of the sale, unbeknownst to them, the slave was "an idiot & a fool or grossly deficient in mind" and "wholly valueless." The petitioners have asked Cureton to refund their money, but he has refused. The petitioners seek $1,000 in damages.
