Abstract
William Hopkins purchased a slave, Katherine, for $650 from Lazarus Tilmon. At the time of the sale, the slave was warranted as sound and healthy. However, the petitioner avers that she suffers from epilepsy and "is of little or no value to your petitioner but is of great trouble and expense." Hopkins tried to return the slave to Tilmon, but he refuses to take her back. Hopkins seeks $1,000 in damages.
