In September 1854, William N. Williams sold an adult female slave, Crecy, to A. B. Sharpe. Sharpe claims that Williams assured him, at the time of the sale, that Crecy was "sound and capable of doing the duties of a nurse for young negro children," although she was blind in one eye. Sharpe claims that "immediately upon putting the said negro upon the discharge of said duties for which the purpose was designed upon his Plantation he discovered" that Crecy was completely blind and totally unfit to take care of children. Sharpe took Crecy back to Williams, who refused to take the slave into his possession. Sharpe seeks $2,000 in damages.
