Abstract
Lemuel Black, Priscilla H. Thornton Black, Willis Scroggins, and Martha E. Thornton Scroggins "were lawfully possessed as their property of certain slaves" in 1856. They claim to have "casually lost" these slaves, which have since come into the possession of William T. Thornton. Thornton refuses to give the eight slaves back. The petitioners seek the return of the slaves or "the Sum of Eleven thousand dollars."
