Clarence Edgeworth, a minor, petitioning by John Oslin and Augustus Patterson, his brothers-in-law and next friends, states that his father, Achilles S. Edgeworth, died in 1858 after appointing Salathiel Edgeworth executor of his considerable estate. The petitioner testifies that four days before he died, Achilles executed a deed conveying one-half of his real estate, 13 slaves, and all his farming equipment to Salathiel Edgeworth. On the day of his death, the testator conveyed the other one-half of his real estate to John S. Roland in trust for Mary L. Edgeworth, wife of Salathiel Edgeworth. The petitioner states that the deeds were to have been secured by Salathiel Edgeworth, but no such security appears on the "fraudulent" estate inventory. Finally, the petitioner states that the conveyances were made because Salathiel Edgeworth was to serve as his guardian. However, the defendant has expelled the petitioner from his house. Clarence Edgeworth asks the court to compel Salathiel Edgeworth to answer all questions regarding his management of the estate.
