Petition #20686601

Abstract

Joel Walker died in March of 1854, leaving his wife, Sara, property that included land and slaves. Sara is now the wife of the petitioner, B. B. deGraffenride. This property was held in trust by John H. Walker, who has since resigned as trustee. DeGraffenride states that the "negroes have been all set free" and that he is "disqualified for farming, by reason of his being a practicing attorney." He asks that he be granted permission to sell the plantation and convert it into stocks and bonds for his wife.
