Petition #20781504

Abstract

Tucker Woodson secured a debt to Charles Hudson with four slaves. Shortly after the mortgage was executed, Tucker Woodson became insane and Samuel H. Woodson "was appointed his Committee." Samuel Woodson permitted Tucker to carry all but two of the slaves out of state and sell them. Charles Hudson took Eliza, one of the remaining slaves, and issued Tucker Woodson a credit on the mortgage; the other was sold to Joseph Hendrick, who allegedly knew of the mortgage but took the slave out of state and sold her anyway. Hudson seeks a subpoena for Tucker and Samuel Woodson and Joseph Hendrick. He also requests that the court award him possession of Eliza and compensation for the slaves sold out of state.
