John Taylor purchased a slave named Aff from Hannah Woods, the administratrix of her husband Archibald's estate. When Taylor's note came due, Hannah Woods sued in court and won a judgment against Taylor. Lately, however, Taylor has discovered that "the negro woman is the property of the heirs of said Archibald Woods & that the said Hannah had no other interest therein than her right of dower which has never been allotted to her." Taylor fears that when the heirs of Archibald, who are now all minors, become of lawful age "they will claim said negro woman & her increase to the great injury & oppression of your orator." Taylor requests the court to confirm his title to Aff or to restrain the collection of Hannah's judgment and rescind the contract and perpetually enjoin the judgment.
