Abstract

Norborne Beal owes the estate of Francis Adams a debt of $1000 plus interest. To secure the debt, he mortgaged three slaves: John, Jim, and Jane, who has since had two children. He has failed to pay the debt by the due date, and the administrators of Francis Adams's estate now ask the court to foreclose on the mortgage and to sell the slaves to pay the debt.
