Petition #20782501

Abstract

Deidamia Rutherforth claims that her husband Jesse's treatment of her has been "cruel, inhuman & barbarous." In 1820 she was forced to leave him, but after six months she was induced to return. For some time his treatment was more compatible with what he owed her as a husband, but then it became even worse than before. Her husband has driven her from their home, "published her to the world as having left him without his consent," and forbidden their friends to help her. Now, with "a heartfelt desolation indescribable," she is compelled to seek the protection of the court. She asks the court to restrain her husband from removing or concealing any of his property, to make an account of her husband's estate, including slaves, and finally to decree to her as alimony such part of the estate as to which she is entitled.

Result: Dismissed.
