The complainants, Jesse Payne and Gurdon Saltonstall, were appointed to oversee Brunk and take charge of his estate, which included slaves. They claim that Robert Higgins, a tavern keeper and neighbor of Brunk's, took advantage of Brunk and won a judgment against him in February, the same month in which he was declared insane. To satisfy the judgment, Sheriff John Morris seized a two-year-old slave from Brunk's estate. The complainants ask the court to restrain Higgins from selling the infant and to direct him to return the child; if he does not, they ask that the sheriff retrieve and return the child.Diseases (mental)Drunkenness
