William Wilson, the guardian of Robert, Aron, and Harriott Custer [Custard], states that his wards have moved with their mother to Indiana, "where slavery is not permitted," and have had to leave Lewis, the slave they inherited from their late father, George Custer, with him. He asks the court to order the slave to be sold, "inasmuch as sd slave like all other perishable property is subject to casualties whereby he may be lost to your petitioners."
