Petition #20783013

Abstract

Francis Moore petitions the court for a change of venue for an action in which Betty, a woman of color, is plaintiff and he is defendant. Moore believes Betty to be his slave and she is trying to establish her right to freedom. He is apprehensive that "through the instrumentality of her friends, a certain Thomas Bullock and Samuel Wilson, of great zeal in the cause of emancipation as regards the slaves of other persons," there is such prejudice against his case that he cannot obtain a fair trial in Woodford.
