Benjamin Lawrence is the administrator of the estate of Elias Lawrence, deceased, and guardian of his infant son. A slave named William is part of the estate, and Benjamin "believes there is just cause of apprehension that the said slave William is disposed to escape from Servitude and that he will therefore become a total loss to the estate." William's brother and sister and her children have already fled, and Benjamin has been told by a free man of color that William's father, who is free, is endeavoring to effect his escape. William is now kept safe in the county jail, but Benjamin would like the court to decree his sale.
