Abstract
Amanda, a woman of color, asserts that her former master, Samuel Heisle, stipulated in his will that she and several other slaves would be free upon his death. Amanda charges that the executor of the estate, James Heisle, has violated the instructions of the will by selling her to Shapley Owen for eight years.
