Abstract

Winney, a woman of color, states that her mistress, Elizabeth Whitehead, signed a prenuptial agreement keeping control of her property as she entered into marriage. Winney also states that Elizabeth Whitehead intended that Winney should be free after her death. Whitehead subsequently died intestate, and the marriage contract is now lost. Winney asks the court to emancipate her according to her late mistress's wishes.
