Rebecca Lucas Middleton informs the court that her father Nathaniel Lucas died, leaving several slaves and other property to his wife Sarah. She states that her sister, Sarah Lucas, was married to Brice Gatton. On 14 February 1825, the said Brice agreed to sell the interest in his wife's estate to Rebecca's husband, Samuel Middleton, for one hundred and ten dollars. Sarah married Pleasant Hines after Brice died, and said Pleasant claims the agreement between Gatton and Middleton is invalid. On 10 June 1845, Hines and members of the Lucas family entered into a mutual agreement to sell Sarah's estate property. Rebecca now asserts that twelve slaves and other property have been sold and that Pleasant Hines is in possession of the proceeds and property which belonged to her husband. Rebecca seeks to receive the proceeds from the sale.
