John R. Shannon states that his stepmother, Elizabeth Walker, received certain slaves, including a girl named Lucinda, as a part of her dower following the death of his father, William Shannon. Informing the court that Walker sold Lucinda, the petitioner contends that she "had no right to sell or dispose of the said dower negro." Walker has since died, and Andrew Kyle is executor of her estate. The petitioner prays for Kyle to pay him the value of the slave at the time of Walker's death.
