Petition #20881203

Abstract

Benjamin Rhodes seeks to collect a debt from Francois Herault. Rhodes represents that he worked as Herault's overseer in 1811 at Herault's "special instance & request." Rhodes claims that, during that year, he raised a crop of corn and cotton, boarded and lodged a man for Herault, and made "sundry Clothes & garments for the negroes of the said Herault." Herault has yet to pay Rhodes for his services. Rhodes prays for $300 in compensation for "work & labour." A related deposition provides details about Rhodes’s year as Herault’s overseer and his economic management of the plantation and slaves.
