Petition #20881314

Abstract

Julian, a slave, sues by the consent of her master, John Blanquet, in order to regain possession of her money. In May 1812, Julian was "in the possession and ownership of the sum of four hundred Dollars in cash." Fearing that the money would get lost or stolen, Julian "deposed the sum in the hands of" Antonio Boniquet and Marie Louise Dubrucy, a free woman of color. They "gave their obligation to return the same one year after." However, Boniquet actually took the money in order to defraud the petitioner, "an ignorant slave," and has yet to return the sum, though the one year "has long since expired & elapsed." Therefore, Julian prays that Boniquet and Dubrucy be sentenced to refund her $400 with interest and costs of the suit.
