L. Ferriet seeks to recover the purchase price of a slave who "is in the habit of running away". In November 1813, Ferriet purchased two slaves, Martoune and her four-year-old child, for $500 from Justine Seguin, a free woman of color. Seguin warranted that the slaves were healthy and free from "redhibitory vices." However, shortly after the sale, the slave ran away and was conducted to the city jail, where she remains at this time. Ferriet asks the court to compel Seguin to refund the purchase price.
