Petition #20881438

Abstract

The Attorney General, F. X. Martin, petitions on behalf of the State of Louisiana to detain and sell a female slave and two male slaves. According to the petition, Mary, Virgil, and Lesperance "were on or about the month of December 1812 illegally imported ... from the coast of Africa or some other foreign port or country." Martin declares that the slaves "have become forfeited to the State" and therefore "prays that they may be seized by the Sheriff."
