William Pitt Higbee petitions the court to cancel the seizure and sale of a "negro slave & child." Higbee purchased two slaves on mortgage from Alexander Porter in 1812. He claims that one of the slaves, Dinah, has a chronic "disease in the abdomen or matrix," of which Porter was aware when he sold her but failed to disclose. This disease, Higbee explains, renders Dinah unable to "answer the purposes" for which he purchased her. As Higbee was contesting the sale agreement, Porter sought and received an order of seizure and sale for the slaves. In this petition, Higbee is appeals the court ruling and asks for an injunction to halt any further rulings against his property.
