Jean Antoine Gibert asks the court to allow him to proceed with the execution of the act of freedom for his female mulatto slave named Marie Louise, also known as Fanchine. Fanchine is more than thirty years of age. Gibert presents that he had bought Fanchine in 1802, and in 1803 had promised to grant her freedom in an act passed under private signature. Since then, Fanchine has lived a well-regulated life under his roof, her conduct has been above reproach and she has never been implicated in any criminal affair.
