Cyrille Moulet, a free man of color, presents to the court that he wishes to emancipate his forty-one-year-old female slave named Laurette as a reward for "her good services." Desirous to comply with the dispositions of the law "determining the mode & Conditions of the emancipation of slaves," he declares that Laurette always "kept a good behavior," never ran away, and did not commit any crime. He "humbly requests" the court to order that the "notice as prescribed by law" be posted up and other formalities "relative Thereto" be complied with.
