P. Denis Delaronde, a planter, is acting as the "attorney in fact" of the widow Castillon, a resident of France. He asks the court to authorize him to make the "usual publications" in order to emancipate the widow Castillon's slave, John Baptiste, a man of more than thirty years of age. He vouches that John Baptiste has always behaved "according to what is stated in the affidavit" annexed to the petition, i.e., that he has never run away or committed any crime, but on the contrary has always kept a good conduct.
