Marie Anstive, a free woman of color, presents to the court that, in 1816, she purchased from the estate of the late Francois Berdoudy a female slave named Francoise, also known as Zibée, for the purpose of giving her freedom when reimbursed by her for the $510 purchase price. Francoise is now fifty years of age. Anstive further presents that Francoise has now reimbursed her in full. She therefore asks the court to "direct that the formalities of advertising" by the sheriff be complied with and to authorize the notary public to pass the act of emancipation.
