The petitioners are Etienne C. Garrau and his wife Anne Julie Aumailley, Louis Sperier and his wife Marie Anne Aumailley, Jean Baptiste Maillard and his wife Francoise Aumailley. The latter couple is represented by their attorney-in-fact, René Terrien, "by act of presentation" before Charles Tissier, judge of the parish of Baton Rouge. They present to the court of Orleans that they are the owners of a female slave named Marinette, "upwards" of thirty years of age, to whom they are "desirous to grant freedom" in consideration of her services. They vouch that Marinette has "always been well behaved" and has never been guilty of running away or other crimes. They ask the court to "grant the order required in such cases."
