Petition #20881855

Abstract

Nicolas Mandeville, a free man of color, presents to the court that he and another man of color named Jean Baptiste Mallorquin were jointly appointed testamentary executors of the late Antony Conway, also a free man of color. He further presents that Jean Baptiste Mallorquin executed the late Conway's last will and testament but "neglected" to emancipate, as directed by the will, Conway's two slaves and "natural," i.e., illegitimate, daughters, named Marie and Marie Thereze. Mallorquin is now dead, and Conway's two daughters are pressing Mandeville to "Execute the Disposition" of the will. Mandeville therefore asks the court to "grant him leave" to have the "said emancipation posted up in conformity with the law."
