Petition #20881902

Abstract

Sarah Rollins, a woman of color, claims that she was born free in 1802 in the state of Pennsylvania. Since that time, she has been taken illegally into North Carolina and Kentucky before being sold as a slave, in 1818, to Baptiste St. Amand of New Orleans by one Hayden Edmonds. Rollins asserts that she is ready to prove that she is "now and always was entitled to her liberty & freedom." She prays that the court will enjoin St. Amand to "liberate" her and to pay the amount of her wages during the time she was in his service, plus "costs and damages."

Result: Partially granted.
