Abstract
John Smith, a free man of color, presents to the court that he is "desirous to grant liberty" to his female slave named Dinah or Diana, who is "thirty years and upwards." He vouches that Dinah has "behaved well for the last four years," has not been guilty of running away or committing any other misdemeanor. He asks the court to "grant an order" to the sheriff to post up the "notice usual in such cases."
