Sebastian Hiriart presents to the court that he is the "true & bona fides owner & proprietor" of a male slave named Jean Louis, who ran away in February 1819. From February 1819 until October 1820, Jean Louis was "concealed" by one Jean Jeannot and the widow of François Mayeux, who "wickedly & illegally," and without Hiriart's permission, hired out Jean Louis's services or "otherwise" for more than six hundred days. Hiriart therefore prays that Jeannot and Mayeux be condemned to pay him two dollars for each day they concealed Jean Louis, for a total of $1,226, plus interest and costs of suit.
