Antonio Saya [Llado] petitions the court to recover his freedom. Saya represents that he was emancipated by his former master Don Pedro Nicholo Saya on the island of Cuba in 1811. Until about two years and three months ago, Saya was "in the peaceable & lawful enjoyment of his freedom obtaining an honest livelihood by labor" in Cuba. He was then "kidnapped, & forcibly & violently hurried off & put on board a small schooner," which he believes was owned by a man named Livorgne. Saya is now held as a slave by Livorgne in Louisiana, within the jurisdiction of the court. Saya prays to "be restored" to the full enjoyment of his freedom and asks to "be taken under the protection" of the court until the case is settled.
