Placide Bossier claims that Robert Hamilton, "with a certain large whip," assaulted his slave Charles "in a most cruel and unmerciful manner." Charles has been "confined to his bed ever since." Bossier seeks $290 in damages for being deprived of the services of Charles and for the costs of treating him.
