Abstract
François Borée, a free man of color, presents to the court that he is "desirous of emancipating & freeing from the bonds of slavery" his forty-five-year-old female slave named Constance, in order to comply with the "obligation" he contracted when he purchased her. He vouches that Constance has always "behaved in a blameless manner." He asks the court to order the sheriff to post up "all necessary notices" of emancipation.
