Benjamin Poydras de la Lande writes that he entered into an agreement with Hypolite Bergeron, whereby Bergeron would grow cotton using Poydras's slaves on a tract of Poydras's land. After the crop was harvested, Jack Hardy, a free man of color, illegally received ten thousand pounds of Poydras's cotton from Bergeron. Poydras de la Lande estimates the value of this amount of cotton at $250. He asks the court to compel payment from Hardy [Original in English and French; French version incomplete].
