Jean Lambert, a free man of color, presents that he is "desirous to grant freedom" to his forty-year-old female slave named Jeanne, in consideration of her "faithful services." He explains that he purchased Jeanne in 1824 for the express purpose of emancipating her. He vouches that Jeanne has always "led an exemplary life and has never been guilty of any ill conduct" or other crimes or misdemeanors "contemplated by law in cases of intended manumission of slaves." He asks the court to authorize the sheriff to "make the publications required in this case according to law."
