Abstract
Manuel José, a free man of color, presents to the court that he is desirous to emancipate his thirty-year-old wife named Marie Zaïre, whom he "purchased and paid for with a view to such emancipation." He vouches that Marie Zaïre is "of good orderly and industrious habits" and has never been guilty of "any great crime." He asks the court to order "the notices and other necessary proceedings" required by law.
