"The petition of Cyprien Marie Jeanne a free man of color of the Parish of St Landry, with respect, represents, that in the month of August last he purchased of Genevieve Carriere, widow Pilip Lacaze, a female mulatto child slave named Euphrosine aged now about one year, of which child your petitioner is the father-- That this purchase was made with a view to the emancipation of the child, and wishing to give her liberty, makes this application under the act of 31 January 1827-- and prays that he may be allowed to pass the act of emancipation and as in duty bound he will ever pray."
