Abstract
Maria Moore Delorme, a free woman of color, asks the court to "lay" her "humble petition" before the Police Jury for their consent to the emancipation of her two slaves, twenty-eight-year-old daughter Jeanne and two-year-old grandson François. She presents that she has purchased Jeanne and François from Louis Chauvin Deléry, with the express intent to emancipate them. A related act of sale in the French language reveals that Louis Deléry was acting as the agent of his wife, Marie Corbin Deléry.
