Marguerite Hazeur, a free woman of color, presents to the court that she has recently become "the sole and lawful proprietor of her mother," a slave named Tonton, whom she intends to emancipate. She declares that Tonton has never run away nor committed any crime. Marguerite Hazeur asks the court to order that the "necessary advertisements and publications" be made during "the delay required by law" and, if no opposition is made, to authorize her to set her mother free, and to execute and pass unto her the act of freedom.
